Ryan Reynolds Leaves the ‘Highlander’ Reboot

Ryan Reynolds exits Highlander rebootRyan Reynolds has decided to part ways with Summit Entertainment's Highlander reboot due to a very long development period.

Justin Lin was originally brought on to direct the film back in late 2009, but left in 2011 to focus on Fast & Furious 6. After his departure, the studio hired Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to take the reigns on the project. He left in November of 2012 after not being able to match visions with the studio. They are currently searching for his replacement, leaving the Green Lantern star in limbo. This gives the producers a chance to start over and appoint a new director, who will in turn hire a new star that fits his or her vision.

The first Highlander was directed by Russell Mulcahy and starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. The film lead to five sequels and a TV series. Ryan Reynolds most recently voiced a role in DreamWorks Animation's Turbo and will be seen in Robert Schwentke action comedy R.I.P.D.

Highlander is in development .

Gerald Butler could do this. He is Scottish. If they do do this film, why not put the Scott into the role? Ewan McGregor would work to, but I think Gerald would be better fit over all.

@phatalphd Like Kevin McKidd, Gerard Butler, or Ewan McGregor? James McAvoy would seem too young and out of character to me. Or even Tommy Flanagan from SOA

with all these people leaving, one would think to stop the reboot completely and continue the franchise instead.

They just need to leave it alone. The 1st movie was great and was perfect on it's own. The TV show was a great use of the lore of the Immortals. Now, they are doing NOTHING but trying to make another buck. There are enough fans of this franchise to make sure it is seen but it is still not worth their effort. However, the last movie mash-up was a joke and disappointed fans of the movie and the TV show.
