According to The Hollywood Reporter, the heat from Paramount Home Entertainment's Sahara lit up both the sales and the rental charts the week ending Sept. 4, as the action-adventure film shot to the top of both VideoScan's First Alert DVD sales chart and Home Media Retailing's rental chart its first week in stores.

Sahara narrowly outsold another new release, New Line's Monster-in-Law, by a margin of about 2%. A third newcomer, Buena Vista's direct-to-video Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, debuted at No. 3 on the preliminary national sales chart.

In rental stores, Sahara generated an estimated $11.7 million, or 17% of its theatrical gross. Again, Monster-in-Law came in second, with estimated rental earnings of $10.8 million.
