One of the most celebrated drama director's will take over the largest film franchise in history. The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog is reporting that director Sam Mendes will direct the new and as-of-yet-untitled James Bond film, James Bond 23.

We reported yesterday that the film was being put on hold, due to MGM's financial situation regarding a possible sale of the studio, but the film is moving forward regardless.

Mendes' involvement has put the film on the fast track to production, with filming to potentially start as early as June, targeting a 2011 release. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any more news surrounding James Bond 23 as soon as more information comes in.
