Sam Rockwell is in early talks to star in MGM's Poltergeist remake for director Gil Kenan (Monster House).

The actor will portray the husband of Rosemarie DeWitt's character, who joined the cast last month. The story centers on the Bowen family, whose lives are turned upside down when paranormal forces begin to take hold of the youngest daughter Madison. Sam Rockwell is reportedly weighing a number of offers, including a supporting role in Sony's musical remake Annie, but it is believed that Poltergeist will be the actor's next project.

Gil Kenan is directing from a screenplay by Juliet Snowden,Stiles White, and David Lindsay-Abaire, with Sam Raimi, Robert G. Tapert and Roy Lee producing. MGM and Fox 2000 will also produce, with 20th Century Fox handling worldwide distribution and marketing.

Sam Rockwell currently stars in the indie The Way, Way Back, and he will next be seen in A Single Shot.
