Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Adam Driver is ringing in the new year as the host of Saturday Night Live's first 2016 episode, airing Saturday, January 16. While we get ready for this beloved actor to make his SNL hosting debut in just a few short days, NBC has released a new promo, which features the actor brandishing his controversial crossguard lightsaber in a diner, alongside series star Kate McKinnon. Many assumed the show would tackle his villainous character Kylo Ren on the show, which is essentially confirmed by this promo.

It isn't known what plans the show may have for Star Wars: The Force Awakens villain Kylo Ren this weekend. The character is most certainly a controversial one, since we learned over the course of this blockbuster that he is actually the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa. SNL is well known for having a few surprise guests drop by, so it's possible that they may have gotten Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to stop by, but that's only speculation at this time.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been shattering box office records left and right, earning over $819.6 million at the domestic box office and $1.76 billion worldwide. It currently has the record for the highest-grossing film ever domestically, and third largest movie ever worldwide, behind Titanic ($2.1 billion) and Avatar ($2.7 billion). It remains to be seen if Star Wars: The Force Awakens can break these records, but this blockbuster still has plenty of time before it leaves theaters.

Adam Driver will also likely be promoting the Season 5 premiere of his hit HBO series Girls, which debuts February 21, 2016. The actor's popular character Adam Sackler even transitioned into the animated TV realm earlier this year. The actor had a guest starring spot on Fox's hit series The Simpsons during the show's Season 27 premiere back in late September.

This episode of Saturday Night Live will mark Adam Driver's hosting debut of the hit series, with the episode also featuring musical guest Chris Stapleton. It's possible that some of the actor's Girls co-stars could join him for surprise appearances, but we won't know for sure until this weekend.
