During last night's episode of Saturday Night Live, the last of 2015, the late night comedy show confirmed its first guest host of 2016. In case you didn't see last night's episode, the Saturday Night Live Twitter account revealed that the show's first 2016 host will be Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Adam Driver. The actor will host the January 16, 2016 SNL episode, although the musical guest was not yet revealed for this program.

The news comes on the same day that Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke the box office record for largest opening weekend of all time, with $238 million. This mark shatters the previous record set earlier this year by Jurassic World, which took in $208.8 million during its debut weekend in mid-June. Star Wars: The Force Awakens also broke records for the biggest December opening, biggest opening day, single day, and Thursday preview grosses. It also set the record for largest per-screen average for a movie in wide release.

Adam Driver portrays the villainous Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a character he will most likely revisit in Studio 8H during his Saturday Night Live hosting stint. Since we have just over a month before this episode debuts, it's tough to tell how the show may use this villainous character for comedic purposes, but we'll have to wait and see. Saturday Night Live hasn't announced any other hosts for other 2016 episodes yet, but we'll keep you posted as soon as these hosts are confirmed.

Adam Driver will also likely be promoting the Season 5 premiere of his hit HBO series Girls, which debuts February 21, 2016. The actor's popular character Adam Sackler even transitioned into the animated TV realm earlier this year. The actor had a guest starring spot on Fox's hit series The Simpsons during the show's Season 27 premiere back in late September.

This episode of Saturday Night Live will mark Adam Driver's hosting debut of the hit series, which is in its 41st season. It's possible that some of the actor's Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Girls co-stars could join him for surprise appearances, but we won't know for sure until mid-January. What do you think about Adam Driver hosting Saturday Night Live next month?
