Universal Pictures has slated three of its upcoming projects with new release dates today. Savages will be released on September 28, 2012, the animated sequel Despicable Me 2 hits theaters on July 3, 2013, and the sci-fi action tale Oblivion opens on July 19, 2013.

Savages is an adaptation of Don Winslow's novel of the same name. The story centers on two low-key drug dealers (Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson), who are muscled into working for a Mexican drug cartel after their live-in girlfriend (Blake Lively) is kidnapped. Oliver Stone is directing Savages from an adapted screenplay by Shane Salerno and author Don Winslow. The sci-fi drama Looper is the only other movie scheduled for release on September 28, 2012.

Despicable Me 2 is the sequel to the smash hit Despicable Me, which took in more than $250 million at the box office last summer. No cast members have been confirmed as of yet, although Steve Carell will likely return as Gru. No other movies are slated to open on July 3, 2013 as of yet.

Oblivion is based off the Radical Publishing graphic novel, and centers on a lone soldier (Tom Cruise) who is the only man on Earth after the human race fled to cloud cities after the planet became too toxic. When the soldier discovers a female who crash lands on the planet, he begins to question everything he has been told about Earth. Oblivion is currently the only movie slated to open on July 19, 2013.
