Fangoria reports that Scott Kosar, who scripted the upcoming remake of The Amityville Horror, is currently penning an update of George Romero's The Crazies, and may reunite him with the director of last year’s acclaimedThe Machinist, Brad Anderson.

"Paramount is in discussion with Brad Anderson—my favorite of all directors—to do THE CRAZIES," he tells us. "I don’t know if it’s going to happen just yet, but they’re talking about it. My producers really loved THE MACHINIST and Brad is super-talented, and they think we have good creative energy together, which we do."

One project Kosar is not involved with is the sequel to his TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE redo, which at last report was being scripted by Sheldon Turner (who did rewrites on AMITYVILLE). "It’s unfortunate," Kosar says, "because they want to do a prequel based on the origins of the family, and since I created every character in the remake except for Leatherface, I thought I was the right guy to tell the story. And they felt that too. I was their first choice, but I asked for more money than they were willing to pay."

In terms of revisiting other existing horror properties, however, Kosar claims to be retiring from his post. "Hell, no, I don’t plan on doing another horror film remake. Once I’m done with THE CRAZIES, there are a couple of books and an original idea that I want to pursue. There—you’ve got the scoop!"
