Actor Thomas Jane is best known to fans for his role as Marvel Comics' anti-hero the Punisher but it was DC Comics' Western anti-hero Jonah Hex that the actor really wanted to portray on the big screen. In fact, the actor was such a fan of the character from the comics and wanted to play the lead role so badly that when he heard about the film being in development he put on the character's signature make-up and costume and took photos that he used to campaign for the role. While the part ultimately went to Oscar nominee Josh Brolin it was probably a blessing in disguise for Jane as the film was a mitigated disaster and could have made him unavailable to shoot his hit HBO series Hung. But now the actor finally has his chance to play his favorite comic book character on the small screen thanks to DC Universe Animated Original Movies' new animated short film DC Showcase: Jonah Hex, which appears on the full-length film Batman: Under the Red Hood, now available on DVD and Blu-ray. Thomas Jane appeared at Comic-Con this year to promote the new DVD and we had a chance to speak with the actor about the animated short, his love for the character and his thoughts on how the feature film turned out.
