Shailene Woodley May Not Return as Mary Jane Watson in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’

Shailene Woodley won't likely return as Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 How loud are a dozen fan boys complaining about an actress in the feedback section of a movie site? Pretty loud, it turns out. It was reported earlier today that Mary Jane Watson was being bumped from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with the iconic Marvel character to debut in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 instead.

At the time this was confirmed, Shailene Woodley was expected to reprise her role as Mary Jane in the third chapter of this particular Spider-Man saga, coming to theaters in 2016. Now, it's looking like the role will be recast. When the first set photos of Shailene appeared on the Internet, comic book fanatics flocked to their resident comment sections to scream how wrong and unattractive she was for the part. It seems that producers may have listened to the multitude of complaints, changing her out under the guise that its better for the sequel and makes more sense for the recently announced The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4.

Nothing has been confirmed at this time, with those close to the production saying the actress is likely to be recast only because of her role in Divergent, now in production. If this adaptation of the YA novel is a hit, a sequel will move forward fast, leaving the actress no time to return as Mary Jane.

Mary Jane Watson will likely be recast in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Director Marc Webb gave this statement.

"I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress, and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her."

Shailene Woodley only worked a total of three days on three different scenes. Those scenes are likely going to end up on the Blu-ray when its released next year, but its highly doubtful they will ever be used in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. There is no doubt that you, reading this right now, helped land Shailene Woodley on the cutting room floor. That said, who do you think should replace Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 if she doesn't return? Alison Brie? Brie Larson? Quvenzhané Wallis? We here thought Shailene Woodley was a perfect casting choice for this particular iteration of the Spider-Man mythos.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released May 2nd, 2014.

Spider-Man comes to theaters July 28th, 2017.

I think she's great but I've seen her making out too much in the past year. A natural redhead would be nice :/

I honestly think and want Emma Stone should just dye her hair red and be Mary-Jane. To me at least it would make Spider-man my most FAV film ever!

Personally, I'd thought she'd be a perfect Mary Jane. She can act and she's beautiful; redhead or any hair color. She's got the comic book look for MJ. You can't always listen to the backlash of idiots. But if she doesn't return as MJ, I think Dianna Agron would be great for the role as well. We have years till anything is going to happen anyway so I'll return to this when it's relevant.

I hope they do keep her, I think she looks great in the role! And even if she wasn't attractive I would rather brains than beauty.... she's an amazing actress and would do this character justice so KEEP HER ON!!!

Wow. Talk about fanboy butthurt to the max. I think these fanboys should shut the f*ck up and give Woodley a f*cking chance rather than just see a pic a bitch on the comic forums. I though that she was casted well for the role and could be a major improvement over Kristen Dunst's Mary jane (which was the biggest weakness of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies). This complaint is worst than the stupid nitpicks that critics have with Man Of Steel.

@Kill-Bill The Future Foundation didn't exist in 1962. I'm talking about the original series.

We don't seriously expect Mary Jane to look like the comic book photo at the bottom of the article, do we?...that's just stupid. I personally think this crap about Shailene Woodley is ridiculous.

@ejk1 Yes, I know. But not as a villain. He was a member of the Future Foundation at the time. He isn't a enemy of the Fantastic Four anymore. I think that's because of his good relationship with Valeria Richards. I'm still waiting for the moment he will really come back as a villain

@Zak-Lee-Ferguson HAve you seen that stupid show she used to be on? That Secret Life of the American Teenager or some sh*t like that? That was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen. When I first found out she got casted in the role I thought it was a horrible choice. I dont think she's a good actress and I think she's terrible for the role, and I wouldnt be able to take her seriously cause of that show she was on. The only reason I know about it is cause I watch The Soup with Joel Mchale where he makes fun of all the dumb sh*t on tv. And yes, I think she is not very attractive, especially for the role of Mary Jane. If you dont like it.. tough

@Kill-Bill Check your research, dude. Doom appeared in FF in issue #5, and was a constant mainstay. The others are valid, though, so on them I stand corrected.
