It's been since March 2009 that we've heard any kind of substantial news about the big screen adaptation of DC Comics Shazam!, which had Dwayne Johnson attached in some capacity. It's not know if the Journey 2: The Mysterious Island actor is still planning to don tights for this superhero adventure (various reports had him playing both Shazam! and Black Adam), but we do have a confirmation from screenwriter and comic book creator Geoff Johns (Green Lantern) that the movie is not dead.

Geoff Johns is currently writing The Curse of Shazam! for DC Comics, and while speaking about his work on this monthly title, he gave an update on the film.

When asked if the project had been scrapped, this was his response.

"Oh, no, Shazam!'s always...There's always a possibility for Shazam!. There's always talk about Shazam!. And I can't get into the specifics on that, but yeah, there's hope for Shazam."

Geoff Johns was then asked if his current work on The Curse of Shazam! was being set up as a template for the film.

"Not really. It's got some elements that I pitched in there, and some of the same characters, obviously, because the characters cross over. Tonally, it's probably pretty close."
