Shrek 2: According to The Hollywood Reporter, while DreamWorks' Shrek 2 continued to dominate home video sales this week after selling 12.1 million DVD and VHS units during its first three days in release, Fox Searchlight's drama The Clearing sold 54% of its initial shipment to retailers -- or about 300,000 combined units -- on Tuesday, its first day on store shelves, according to Nielsen VideoScan and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment executives.

"Clearing," starring Robert Redford, Willem Dafoe and Helen Mirren, had a limited theatrical release, generating about $5.7 million at the boxoffice, which makes the 300,000-unit figure more significant, Fox execs said. Rental numbers for Clearing won't be available until next week. Besides topping VideoScan's First Alert DVD and VHS sales charts during its debut weekend, Shrek 2 captured the No. 3 spot on Video Store magazine's weekly rental chart after just three days on shelves.
