Sissy Spacek has signed on to make her directorial debut with Sweet Tea, a 1930s drama based on a collection of supernaturally inflected short stories called "Goodbye to the Buttermilk Sky" by Julia Oliver.

The film will feature a script by C. Gaby Mitchell (Blood Diamond).

Julia Oliver's book centers on various families and relationships in Depression-era Alabama.

The cast is being assembled and will be announced in the next few days. No production date has been set.
