Following the first look photo from back in March, Open Road Films has released yet another new image from Snowden. This one features Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the title character Edward Snowden and our first look at Shailene Woodley as his girlfriend, Lindsay Mills. The couple is seen walking through Washington D.C., which is where production is currently taking place.

Snowden is based on two separate books, The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena. The plot follows the American whistleblower Snowden, who leaked thousands of classified CIA documents to the media that revealed how the U.S. government spies on its own citizens. Snowden took asylum in Russia, where he now lives with his girlfriend Lindsay Mills, who was initially unaware of what her boyfriend was doing. The novel Time of the Octopus is written by Snowden's Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, which deals with Snowden's time in Russia as he waited for the country to consider his request for asylum, after the U.S. demanded he be extradited to face jail time for leaking those classified documents.

The supporting cast includes Melissa Leo as filmmaker Laura Poitras, whose film Citizenfour about Snowden won the Best Documentary Oscar earlier this year, alongside Scott Eastwood, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Nicolas Cage, Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson. Oliver Stone is directing from a script he co-wrote with Kieran Fitzgerald. Take a look at the latest image below from Snowden, which is set for release on December 25.
