This November, a new President of the United States will be elected, as President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama leave the White House after two terms in office. Before their historic run comes to an end, fans can see how the First Couple's relationship started in the new film Southside with You, which hits theaters August 26. Today we have the first trailer, which shows how one date turned into a romance that has lasted for over 25 years.

Inspired by Barack Obama and Michelle's first date, Southside with You recounts the eventful summer day in 1989 when a young law firm associate named Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers) tried to woo lawyer Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter) during a daylong date that took them from the Art Institute of Chicago to a screening of Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing to the site of their first kiss outside of an ice cream parlor. Three years after their now infamous first date, Barack and Michelle Obama were married in 1992, and 16 years later, they moved into The White House. The couple will celebrate their 24th wedding anniversary this October. This new trailer debuted through the Roadside Attractions YouTube page.

The supporting cast includes Vanessa Bell Calloway, Phillip Edward Van Leer, Deborah Geffner, Donald Paul, Jerod Haynes, Preston Tate Jr. and Taylor Fondren. Southside With You had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and it also screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival} last week. Southside With You will open against Screen Gems' Don't Breathe, The Weinstein Company's Hands of Stone and Lionsgate's Mechanic: Resurrection when it hits theaters in late August.

He also created the TV series Cinema Cool, and he has a project in development called The Romans, which he co-wrote with Travis Baker.
