When Felicity Jones signed on for a mysterious role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in January 2013, many believed she was playing Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. Black Cat. The actress then dropped a few hints that she was playing Black Cat leading up to The Amazing Spider-Man 2's release this May. We did learn that her character's name is Felicia, although it was never confirmed if she is Felicia Hardy or simply different character. During an interview with GQ for her new film The Theory of Everything, Felicity Jones claims that she would love to play Black Cat, although it doesn't seem to be set in stone by any means.

"Being vacuum-packed into a leather suit, doing backflips?! I'd love that. Can you start a petition for me?"

After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn't perform quite so well at the box office, the franchise is going in a different direction, with The Sinister Six spin-off being prepped for a 2016 release, and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 getting pushed to an unspecified 2018 release. It's possible that Felicity Jones truly doesn't know what Sony Pictures plans on doing with the character, or the Amazing Spider-Man franchise as a whole, or she could just be playing coy about the character's future.

We reported last week that Sony Pictures is planning an all-female spin-off that could potentially include characters like Black Cat, Silver Sable, Spider-Girl, Silk, Spider Woman and Firestar, although nothing has been confirmed. Lisa Joy is currently working on the script for the spin-off, which Sony is reportedly targeting for release in 2017.
