Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino has just landed yet another huge project. He just did the score for Doctor Strange, which hit U.S. theaters this weekend. Apparently, his first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe went well, because Marvel Studios has recruited him to score Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Rumors had been swirling over the past couple of days that he would be composing the music for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Today, Michael Giacchino decided to put an end to the rumors and confirm himself via his official Twitter account that he will indeed be scoring Peter Parker's first solo adventure in the MCU. He simply posted the Spider-Man: Homecoming log with a caption that said "The Rumors are true."

Disney might as well keep Michael Giacchino on retainer at this point, because he has been doing a staggering amount of work for the studio on some of their most high-profile projects. He has won two Academy Awards for his work on Pixar movies, for Up and Ratatouille respectively. More recently, he stepped in to score the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after Alexandre Desplat was forced to step down from the movie. That means Michael Giacchino will become the first person who isn't named John Williams to ever score a Star Wars movie.

One of the very few criticisms of the MCU movies up to this point has been the lack of memorable music from the original scores. Doctor Strange has an awful lot going for it and has already made $325 million worldwide, including an $85 million opening weekend in the U.S., but Michael Giacchino's score has been getting quite a bit of praise. It looks like Marvel Studios is hoping he can help breathe some new life into the Spider-Man franchise after the two Amazing Spider-Man movies Sony made with Andrew Garfield.

Up next for Michael Giacchino will be the previously mentioned Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In addition to Spider-Man: Homecoming, he will also be scoring War for the Planet of the Apes and he has also already been announced for The Incredibles 2, which recently had its release date moved up by a year to May 2, 2018. Spider-Man: Homecoming is being directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Logan Marshall-Green, Donald Glover, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr.. The movie is set for release on July 7, 2017.
