Actor Chris Pine is set to star in two high-profile projects for Paramount Pictures later this year: Star Trek 2 and the Untitled Jack Ryan Project. The studio was originally trying to go into production on the Untitled Jack Ryan Project before Star Trek 2, but that plan has now changed.
It seems there are ongoing script issues with the Untitled Jack Ryan Project. We reported in February that screenwriter Steven Zaillian was brought onto rewrite the screenplay, though he stepped away from the project a few weeks ago. Paramount is currently talking to other writers to come aboard. Jack Bender is still attached to direct the Untitled Jack Ryan Project.
Now the plan will be for Chris Pine to start production on Star Trek 2 this fall, with a release date already set for July 29, 2012. Director J.J. Abrams still hasn't officially signed onto direct Star Trek 2 yet. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof are writing the screenplay.
Paramount insiders have also indicated that they are in no hurry to rush into the Untitled Jack Ryan Project, since they want to start a franchise with this new movie. Hopefully, these script issues are resolved soon.
