We are inching closer and closer to Star Trek 2's production start date of January 15, which we reported on last month. It is believed that several key Star Trek cast members will reprise their roles for the sci-fi sequel, although it was never known if Bruce Greenwood would be back as Captain Pike.

Screenwriter-producer Roberto Orci has confirmed that Bruce Greenwood's Pike has been written into the sequel, though the actor hasn't officially come on board at this time.

Here's what Roberto Orci had to say below.

"We wrote a part for Greenwood. Let us hope he says 'Yes!'"

Bruce Greenwood, unlike most of the major cast members, did not have an option in his contract to return for the sequel. However, Pike was promoted to Admiral at the end of Star Trek, so he may have a major role to play in Star Trek 2.

J.J. Abrams is directing Star Trek 2 from a screenplay by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof.
