With production currently under way on Star Trek 3, we have already seen the first set photos from actors Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, which they posted to their Instagram accounts last week. Today, director Justin Lin sent out his own set photo, which confirms the new title is Star Trek Beyond, and gives us our first look at the Starfleet uniform. Here's what the director had to say through his Twitter account earlier today.

"Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP"

This is the first time we've had confirmation of the Star Trek Beyond title, after it was revealed that Paramount registered the new Star Trek title with the MPAA back in April. Very little is known about the story at this point, but the plot is rumored to follow the U.S.S. Enterprise as it begins its 5-year mission, which will explore new worlds that fans have never seen in the movies and TV shows. The sequel is also said to embrace the spirit of the original Star Trek TV show, although no specific plot details were given.

Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Karl Urban (Bones), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov) reprise their roles from Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, with new cast members including Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella. Simon Pegg also co-wrote the script with Doug Jung, with the sequel set for release on July 8, 2016, which coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the original Star Trek TV series. Take a look at the new photo from the Star Trek Beyond set, and stay tuned for more photos and updates as shooting continues.
