News about Star Wars: Episode VIII has been slowly trickling in all year, but the latest bit of intel comes from a very unlikely place. A behind-the-scenes featurette for a Heineken commercial. The commercial debuted yesterday, and features Benicio Del Toro. We have the new featurette below, where he is asked about his participation in Episode VIII. He doesn't give any confirmation on who he is playing, but he does reveal why he decided to do the movie. And how he got cast. One: He did it for his daughter. And Two: They asked him. Here's what he has to say when asked how the Star Wars role came about.

"Porbably the same way I got the role for Heineken. They contacted me. They invited me to come to their dance. But you know what? It's great to do a movie in that world. The Star Wars world. It's a great opportunity to enjoy it with my daughter."

When Benicio Del Toro was first rumored for Star Wars, he was said to be eyeing the main villain role. It was later revealed that he actually might not be playing a bad guy. When asked about the role, Benicio Del Toro had this to say.

I don't know if he's a villain. People are saying that, but it's like they read a different script than I read. It's nice to keep people in the dark. A little bit of mystery is good."

Now in production at Pinewood Studios in London, Star Wars: Episode VIII is gearing up for an on-location shoot in Dubrovnik, Croatia, where a local tourist shop has been turned into a galactic outpost. This particular scene is rumored to include both Benicio Del Toro's character and Carrie Fisher as General Leia. This has not been confirmed, but this particular shoot is happening in a very public place, and we may see set photos emerge soon. It isn't known at this point if Benicio Del Toro's unnamed character has any specific relationship with General Leia.

Perhaps Benicio Del Toro is taking on a role akin to Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. We only say that because, at the time Empire came out, Billy Dee Williams was a spokesman for Colt 45. And now, as he begins shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII, Benicio Del Toro has taken on the role of spokesman for Heineken. On Monday, Heineken unveiled their new campaign known as "There's more behind the star", which focuses on the beer loving Benicio Del Toro. The campaign features 3 new TV spots starring the elusive and mysterious actor. And it's the first time the Oscar winner has ever served as a brand spokesperson. The spots will air in 70+ markets internationally in both English and Spanish. The humorous spots see Benicio Del Toro comparing what is behind his own 'star' status to specific stories behind the legendary Heineken brand.
