Earlier today, we showed you photos of Star Wars: Episode VIII stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) arriving in Ireland, to kick off the back half of the sequel's production. One of the stars who wasn't spotted arriving in Ireland was John Boyega, but there's a good reason for that. The actor was at the Cannes Film Festival last night, accepting the Chopard Trophy along with another rising star, Bel Powley (The Diary of a Teenage Girl). While doing press after receiving the award, the actor shed some new light on Star Wars: Episode VIII, before he flew back to the set.

Production on Star Wars: Episode VIII started in February at Pinewood Studios in the U.K., with the production now shifting to Malin Head, Ireland. Very little is know about the story thus far, but there have been several rumors swirling about Finn, who, if recent reports are to be believed, gets captured by Kylo Ren along with Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), in an attempt by Kylo to lure Rey out of hiding. While the actor wouldn't divulge any specific plot points, he did tell Variety that this movie is much bigger and darker than its predecessor. Here's what he had to say, when asked about the transition from working with J.J. Abrams on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to working with Rian Johnson on Star Wars: Episode VIII.

"It's very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It's a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: 'How do you get bigger than Force Awakens?' But it's crazy. My skin color does (get darker) because of the heat on the job! That's me dodging your question because Disney has spies everywhere. If I answer this, I get killed, and I'm not in episode nine."

After Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit theaters in December, many fans thought that the friendship formed by Finn and Rey could eventually blossom into a romance. Nothing has been confirmed about this potential romance, but John Boyega was quick to point out that they never intended Rey and Finn to become romantically involved, but that may change in unexpected ways. Here's what the actor had to say below.

"I mean, we didn't establish a romance in seven; we never played it that way. Daisy and I, we're friends. Yes, Finn and Rey - they're just friends. Finn is a Stormtrooper, so he doesn't really know what's going on. So the romance thing is something that's going to be interesting in the next installment. It's not going to go the way you think it's going to go."

A rumor surfaced earlier in the year that Disney and LucasFilm are contemplating three potential titles for Star Wars 8, Star Wars: Echoes of the Dark Side, Star Wars: The Tale of The Jedi Temple and Star Wars: The Order of the Dark Side. None of those potential titles have been confirmed by Disney or LucasFilm quite yet, and it isn't clear when the official title will be announced. Stay tuned for more updates on Star Wars: Episode VIII, and let us know what you think about this sequel becoming bigger and darker than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
