Massive, Game-Changing Star Wars 8 Scene Leaks Between Rey and Luke?
It has been six months since Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out and got us all very excited about the future of the franchise. We will be (hopefully) enjoying Rogue One: A Star Wars Story later this year, but next year, we get Star Wars: Episode VIII. We know very little about the movie as of right now, but a new report has revealed a potentially massive bit of information.
Be warned, there are major potential spoilers ahead for Star Wars 8. The report comes from Comicbookmovie and claims to have the details of a very big and very important scene between Luke and Rey. If the scene is actually in the movie and even remotely accurate, it is a total, massive game changer for the Star Wars franchise. Below is the first bit of the scene as described in the report.
"In the scene Luke tells Rey that the Jedi Council became "arrogant" and that they were hiding a "secret," which led to their demise. The old Jedi master takes Rey's hand and shows her a glimpse into the past. They see two children playing near a tree on an alien planet. The boy noticed that he had greater strength and intuition when he was closer to this tree. The girl noticed that the tree also made her brother increasingly angry. One day an argument breaks out between the children, and the boy kills the girl. The boy touches the tree and is "transformed,". He kills his parents and leaves the planet. Meanwhile the girl is revealed to be alive, transformed by the tree as well, using her power to start the first Jedi Order."
There is more to the scene, but taking a look at this first bit, this would essentially be the very beginning of both the light and dark side of The Force. It also would give a definite origin to where the Jedi started in the movie universe. This idea has been explored in old versions of the expanded universe, but not that Disney is in control, only content they have released is included in what is considered canon for the Star Wars universe. Also, this has never been explored in any of the movies. So it is huge. But wait, there's more.
"The girl explains how The Force can be used for both good and evil. She tells her followers that one day she would return as either a boy or a girl, and that they should train this child. Luke tells Rey that the Jedi Order had been searching for The One (reincarnation of the original founder of the Jedi) for a millennia. When they found Anakin Skywalker and thought that he would bring balance to The Force, the Jedi were "deceived" and the Clone Wars were the result. The scene also shows Rey's parents, and Luke is not the father. Luke tells her how she was identified as strong with The Force, and how she was supposed to begin her training, but never reached her destination for an unknown reason. In the scene Luke gives Rey a choice, and she has till sunset to make it."
So not only in this scene do we learn where the Jedi started, but we also learn the origins of "the chosen one" and how the Jedi were deceived into thinking Anakin Skywalker was the one who would bring balance to The Force. It also will answer the burning question of who Rey's parents are,and it confirms that Luke is not the father, which is a very popular theory among fans right now. It potentially raises more questions than it answers, but it really is a massive bit of information to dig into. The whole, tree part is somewhat odd, but it is sort of a shared Force dream, so maybe that isn't beat for beat what actually happened. Either way, even if only part of this is true, the Star Wars universe is about to change a lot come next year.
It should obviously be noted that this should be taken with a grain or two of salt, because it wasn't accompanied by a named, reliable source or any corroborating photos or other such hard evidence. We do know that Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill are both going to be interacting a lot in Star Wars Episode VII and that Rey is very clearly, very strong with The Force and that will play heavily into the movie. If this turns out to be true, it tells us an awful lot about what we can expect from Rian Johnson's follow up to The Force Awakens. Star Wars Episode VIII is due out on December 15, 2017.
