Last month, director Rian Johnson wrapped production on Star Wars: Episode VIII, with the filmmaker revealing just a few weeks ago that he has now started the editing process on this sequel. Disney and LucasFilm have set a December 15, 2017 release date for this highly-anticipated follow-up to The Force Awakens, though it isn't clear when the first footage may arrive. While we wait for this trailer, Mark Hamill has provided fans with the next best thing, a video of him shaving off his Jedi Beard, while teasting that he'll return in Star Wars: Episode IX.

In the months leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mark Hamill made it quite clear that he was not fond of the contractually-obligated beard he was forced to grow. Throughout the production, we saw the actor post numerous photos with his beard, but shortly after production wrapped, he shaved it off. Now that production has wrapped on Star Wars 8, Mark Hamill took to Twitter to post a video where he shaves off his beard again, teasing that Luke Skywalker (and his beard) will return in Star Wars: Episode IX. Here's what he had to say on Twitter below.

"Haven't seen my chin since May '15, so #FarewellFacialFur & #ByeByeBeard (at least til #EpisodeIX) @popculturequest"

Oddly enough, this video comes just over a month after Mark Hamill posted a photo on Twitter without his Jedi Beard, with the actor wrapping along with Daisy Ridley (Rey) just a few days later. We don't know for sure if this video is from July, and the actor is just getting around to posting it now, or if he had to grow the beard back for unknown reasons, before shaving it off again this week. This video also comes a few weeks after Mark Hamill caused quite a stir with a recent interview.

Back in late June, Mark Hamill revealed in an interview that he'll be "out of work" after wrapping production on Star Wars 8. Many fans believed that meant he wasn't returning for Star Wars: Episode IX, but he later clarified that he's out of work "for the time being," while failing to clarify if he will return in Star Wars 9. Now it seems that both the actor and his beard will be back for this highly-anticipated sequel.

All we know about Star Wars: Episode IX at this point is that it will be directed by Colin Trevorrow, who teased in January that he wants to take an IMAX camera into actual outer space to film a scene for this sequel. That was the last update we've been given on the trilogy ending climax which is presumed to hit theaters sometime in 2019, after Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 15, 2017) and Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25, 2018). Take a look at Mark Hamill's beard-shaving video below.
