Earlier this week, we reported that Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray was in talks to helm Fast & Furious 8, and there were also rumors that he was in contention to direct Black Panther as well. Since Straight Outta Compton was a huge hit for Universal, it makes sense that they would want to work with the filmmaker again, especially on their lucrative Fast & Furious franchise. Today, a new rumor surfaced from Meet the Movie Press that claims the filmmaker is also in talks to direct Lucasfilm's Third Star Wars Spin-Off Movie, replacing Josh Trank. And its believed that Michael B. Jordan is being eyed to play Boba Fett in that project. Here's what Meet the Movie Press's Jeff Sneider had to say on the weekly podcast.

"I heard that F. Gary Gray, after Straight Outta Compton, was only considering two movies. One was Fast & Furious 8, and the other required meetings in San Francisco. That leaves literally two possibilities. The first, which is what I'm thinking that it was, was to possibly replace Josh Trank on the Boba Fett movie. I do think Boba Fett will be African-American. It's not that black people can only direct movies starring black people, or anything like that, don't get me wrong. But I just remember hearing somewhere that Michael B. Jordan was rumored for Boba Fett, and I think that F. Gary Gray would make a lot of sense. Disney has a huge diversity mandate, and Star Wars has been all white male directors so far. I'm telling you, they want some diversity."

The second possibility for F. Gary Gray was reportedly Indiana Jones 5, which Jeff Sneider claims is going to be coming together soon. Now, with F. Gary Gray in talks for Fast & Furious 8, which is set for release on April 14, 2017, that may take him out of the running for the Third Star Wars Spin-Off Movie, which has long been rumored to focus on Boba Fett. Then again, Disney doesn't have a release date lined up for that movie, so it's possible that he could come aboard after Fast & Furious 8, since the Boba Fett movie likely won't hit theaters until 2020.

As for Michael B. Jordan playing Boba Fett, this is the first we've heard of this potential casting, but producer Kathleen Kennedy revealed in May that this beloved bounty hunter is a "high priority" at LucasFilm. There have also been rumors that this spinoff will take place after Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, where Boba Fett seemingly died in the Sarlaac Pit, meaning there will be a completely different person inside the Boba Fett armor. If that is true, it would certainly open the door for Michael B. Jordan to play the new Boba Fett.

Disney and LucasFilm haven't announced any concrete plans for the third Star Wars Spin-Off Movie, but would you like to see Michael B. Jordan playing Boba Fett? The iconic character was never seen without his mask in the original trilogy, but if they cast a rising star like Michael B. Jordan, that would surely change. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly-anticipated Boba Fett project.
