In the original Star Wars trilogy, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his wookie co-pilot Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) were often inseparable, at each other's sides through the duration of George Lucas' beloved movies, and the current blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In just over two short years, fans will get to see a much younger version of this smuggler in Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo, which is set for release on May 25, 2018. While Disney still hasn't cast Han Solo quite yet, studio CEO Robert A. Iger revealed during Deutsche Bank's 24th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference (via The Wrap), that Chewbacca will be present for this "origin story." Here's what he had to say about the studio's Star Wars lineup.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star. It takes place right before what was George Lucas' first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy. And that'll come after Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2018. And then there'll be possibly be more thereafter."

While most assumed that Chewbacca would be included in this story, this is the first time we've gotten confirmation from someone at the studio. What's interesting is the executive revealed this story takes place "right before" A New Hope, but in January, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan revealed that the story will take place about 10 years before the events of A New Hope. It's worth noting that this news comes just a few weeks before Peter Mayhew teased a big announcement of his own.

The actor revealed on his Twitter page last month that he would be releasing a few pages from his original script for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which, at the time, was called The Adventures of Luke Starkiller as taken from the 'Journal of the Whills', written by George Lucas. He also said that on the final day of his script postings, he will reveal a "big announcement." The actor is still posting pages of the script every day, so we'll have to wait and see what his big news may be. It seems likely that Peter Mayhew may not be involved in this spinoff. It was reported in January that Joonas Suotamo, a 29-year-old basketball player from Finland, played the wookie in all of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' action sequences. And the younger actor will likely step in to take over the role for this spinoff.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo from a script by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. As far as the Han Solo casting goes, the finalists have been reportedly narrowed down to Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner. It is't known when Disney and LucasFilm will announce who the young Han Solo will be. Are you glad Chewie is coming back for the Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo spinoff?
