Josh Boone is close to singing a deal to write and direct Warner Bros. and CBS Films' upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's horror fantasy novel The Stand. He will replace Scott Cooper, who left last November over creative differences.

The novel chronicles the epic battle between good and evil after the American people are eradicated by a deadly virus. The story centers on a group of survivors, who must battle against the tyrant Randall Flagg. The novel was published in 1978 and was adapted for TV in the early nineties starring Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald and Rob Lowe.

Josh Boone most recently directed The Fault in Our Stars and helmed Stuck in Love starring Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly and Kristen Bell.

No production schedule has been released.
