Two weeks after actress Natalie Portman passed on the female lead in Universal's Steve Jobs biopic, the studio is in talks with Kate Winslet for the role. If a deal is finalized, she will star alongside Michael Fassbender and Seth Rogen, who are playing Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. We also reported earlier this month that Jeff Daniels is circling the role of Apple CEO John Sculley, although a formal offer isn't in place yet.

The plot is based on Walter Isaacson's memoir, which is adapted by Aaron Sorkin. The story will be set backstage at the launch of three major Apple products, the Mac computer, Apple Next and the original iPod. No details about the female lead have been revealed, but Aaron Sorkin said last month that Steve Jobs' daughter Lisa is the "heroine" of the movie, so it's possible that Kate Winslet may be playing her.

Danny Boyle is directing the biopic, with Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady producing. It isn't known when production may begin at this time. Kate Winslet most recently starred in Divergent as Jeanine, a role she will reprise in next year's sequel The Divergent Series: Insurgent. She will also be seen in A Little Chaos and Triple Nine, both slated for release next year.
