According to Variety, Steve Miner has been set to direct Day of the Dead the Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla Films remake of George Romero's 1985 zombie tale. Final Destination scribe Jeffrey Reddick is writing the script.

Miner takes the job after directing such fright films as "Halloween H2O" and Lake Placid.

Romero wrote and directed the original, which follows a group of scientists and military personnel holed up in an underground bunker because the world above is overrun with zombies. The lumbering flesheaters eventually find a way in and wreak havoc on the scientists who've been experimenting on their undead brethren.

The pic is being produced by Millennium's Avi Lerner and Boaz Davidson, Randall Emmett, George Furla and James Dudelson.

"We are very enthusiastic about the marketplace's continued demand for new and exciting horror pictures, and we are please to have Steve helm this," Lerner said.
