Steven Spielberg in Talks for ‘Gods and Kings’

Steven Spielberg in talks to direct Gods and KingsBack in September, we reported that Warner Bros. is eyeing Steven Spielberg to direct Gods and Kings. Today we have word that the director has entered into formal negotiations for the biblical epic.

Michael Green and Stuart Hazeldine wrote the screenplay, which tells the complete life story of Moses, from birth to death. The script is based off the Book of Exodus and other stories from the Bible's Old Testament. Our earlier report said that Gods and Kings is not a remake of the 1956 classic The Ten Commandments, which starred Charlton Heston as Moses.

Dan Lin and Matti Leshem are producing Gods and Kings for Warner Bros. If the deal is finalized, it isn't known if this will be Steven Spielberg's next project, since he has several other movies in development.

No production schedule was given for Gods and Kings.

Gods and Kings was released in 2014.

@pjwolsker It's okay, bro. Last night I made the mistake of leaving Kick-Ass off of my favorite CBM's list. Felt a little stupid.

@dan1 Yes it would. Just imagine a bearded William Hurt walking around in a robe with a walking stick demanding the pharaoh let his people go, or Christian Bale riding around on horseback with crossbow and duel pistols leading the animals two by two onto the ark, lol!! God, I can't wait.

With this and Noah, I can totally see biblical epics making a comeback in the industry a la the days of Cecil B. DeMille.

Just what we need, another jewish struggle related drama by Spielberg. Why doesn't he showcase his talents in some regular drama for a change. Especially not this fantasy based one.
