Director F. Gary Gray is in talks to lead the N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton.

The biopic follows the rise and fall of the Compton, California based rap group N.W.A. The members included drug dealer-turned-label founder Eazy-E, DJ Dr. Dre and the politically active Ice Cube. N.W.A fell victim to the familiar trappings of success, with egos and jealousies surfacing, and the group slowly faded away. Eazy-E's 1995 death of AIDS was the final blow to the group.

The director is competing for the opportunity with John Singleton, George Tillman Jr. and Elgin James. Matt Alvarez and Ice Cube are producing the project.
