Towards the beginning of Warner Bros.' blockbuster Suicide Squad, there are brief scenes which offer some insight into all of these unique characters that make up Task Force X. We learned in Harley Quinn's (Margot Robbie) brief scene that she was involved in the death of Batman's sidekick Robin. One of the most interesting revelations in these scenes is that Digger Harkness, a.k.a. Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) has a "fetish" for "pink unicorns," and in the movie we see Boomerang with a plush unicorn dubbed Pinky. During a new interview, David Ayer confirmed that Boomerang is in fact a "Brony."

As you likely known, a Brony is the term for an adult fan of My Little Pony. While Pinky isn't an actual character from the My Little Pony universe, there is a character named Pinkie Pie, along with a pink unicorn similar to Suicide Squad's Pinky, dubbed Sugar Belle. In an interview with Empire, director David Ayer teased that he wanted to give Boomerang a hobby, besides robbing banks. Here's what he had to say, revealing that Pinky was originally supposed to be just part of the set decoration.

"[Pinky] was actually intended to be a piece of set decoration in one of our office building sets. I thought [Boomerang] needed a little something kind of fun and silly and it kept appearing throughout the film. It became a bit of a mascot. Yes, [he's a] Brony. Which is fine. I think it's a good thing and gives him a little hobby besides robbing banks."

It's worth noting that there have been rumors of a spinoff for Boomerang, along with another for The Joker (Jared Leto), but that hasn't been confirmed. However, the studio is working on a spinoff featuring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, which is also believed to feature Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. If a Boomerang spinoff does happen, then perhaps they will address Boomerang's fondness for pink unicorns and My Little Pony.

Suicide Squad took in $133.6 million in its opening weekend at the box office, which set a new record for the biggest debut in the month of August. There have been plenty of rumors about Suicide Squad 2, one of which claims the studio wants David Ayer to direct with filming to start in early 2017, but that hasn't been confirmed. Stay tuned for more on this potential sequel and spinoffs for Suicide Squad.
