Warner Bros.' DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad has hit a speed bump on the way to production this spring, with Tom Hardy departing the project. The actor was announced as Rick Flagg last month, alongside Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Boomerang) and Cara Delevigne (Enchantress). However, Heat Vision Blog reports that the actor was forced to bow out because the project he is currently shooting, Alejandro González Iñárritu's The Revenant, will be shooting longer than expected, until the middle of March, and, after that, he will be promoting Mad Max: Fury Road.

The Wrap also reports that Warner Bros. is eyeing Jake Gyllenhaal to replace the departing actor, although the report wasn't confirmed by the studio or the actor's representatives. If the actor does sign on, it will reunite him with his End of Watch director David Ayer. We reported in November that production on Suicide Squad will begin this April at Pinewood Studios Toronto.

Viola Davis signed on to play Amanda Waller last month, the government official who leads the Suicide Squad, a semi-secret covert group of former super villains who work for the government in return for their freedom. Now that Tom Hardy isn't playing Rick Flagg, do you think Jake Gyllenhaal is the best actor to replace him? Chime in with your thoughts below, and stay tuned for more details regarding Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad.
