Just minutes ago, Warner Bros. announced the main cast members for Suicide Squad. However, there is still one major role still left to be cast, the squad's leader and the villain of the movie, Amanda Waller. Variety reports that Oprah Winfrey is the studio's top choice for the role, with other contenders including Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.

In the comic books, Amanda Waller was a government agent who oversees the Task Force X (Suicide Squad) program, which assigns practically impossible missions to this group of dangerous villains. Amanda Waller was previously portrayed on the big screen by Angela Bassett in Warner Bros.' 2011 adventure Green Lantern, and she was also played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson on the small screen in Season 2 of Arrow. The character has also been featured in a number of animated projects, with CCH Pounder most recently voicing Amanda Waller in this summer's Batman: Assault on Arkham.

It remains to be seen if Oprah Winfrey, Viola Davis or Octavia Spencer are even interested in taking on the role. Variety reports that production will begin this coming April in Toronto, so there is still plenty of time to figure out who ill play Amanda Waller. It also isn't clear quite yet if there is the possibility for Amanda Waller to cross over into any of the other previously-announced DC Comics movies, such as the new version of Green Lantern which is slated for release in 2020.

The film will star two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness, Ali, upcoming Focus) as Deadshot; Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road") as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, upcoming Focus, the Tarzan movie) as Harley Quinn; Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Alexander) as the Joker; Jai Courtney (Divergent, upcoming The Water Diviner) as Boomerang; and Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina, upcoming Pan) as Enchantress.

Ayer is also writing the script for Suicide Squad, which is being produced by Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy, upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Richard Suckle (American Hustle). Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns are serving as executive producers.
