Following last night's news that Divergent director Neil Burger will not return to make the sequel Insurgent, Summit Entertainment released a statement explaining why the filmmaker will not be back at the helm.

"Neil Burger is a rock star and he is doing a fantastic job on Divergent. We can't wait for you to see the film. But as amazing as Neil is he still cannot be in two places at once and thus needs to finish post production on Divergent while we gear up to start production on Insurgent. So, although Neil will continue on as part of our Divergent family as an executive producer, we sadly have to find another director for the next chapter in Veronica Roth's fantastic series."

Summit has already set a March 20, 2015 release date for Insurgent, along with a March 18, 2016 release date for the final adaptation Allegiant.

Shailene Woodley stars in Divergent as Tris Prior, a young woman who has to decide which of five factions she wants to live the rest of her life under. When Tris learns she is a "Divergent," someone who doesn't fit within any of the five factions, she must try to unravel a conspiracy that could alter her universe forever. Kate Winslet, Theo James, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Zoë Kravitz and Ray Stevenson also star.
