With production back on track for the highly-anticipated comedy sequel Super Troopers 2, the cast keeps growing. Today we have word that Emmanuelle Chriqui has signed on to this long-awaited follow-up, playing Genevieve Aubois, a French/Canadian cultural attaché who is trying to foster relations with the United States. This news comes just two days after we got our first look at Rob Lowe's Guy Le Franc, a former hockey player who serves as the mayor of a Canadian border town near Quebec.

Deadline has the news of Emmanuelle Chriqui's casting, but it isn't known how large or small her role is, or if she has any connection to Rob Lowe's Canadian character Guy Le Franc. The original Super Troopers was set in Spurbury, Vermont, a fictional town close to the U.S./Canada border, and it seems that at least part of this sequel is set in Canada. The Broken Lizard team started shooting earlier this month. Here's what writer-director-star Jay Chandrasekhar had to say about Emmanuelle Chriqui's casting.

"Emmanuelle and I met years ago and have been trying to work together ever since. With Super Troopers 2, we found the perfect part and our worlds have finally aligned."

Back in October, Erik Stolhanske shared the first set photo as production got under way, with the original plan to have the sequel released sometime this summer. Jay Chandrasekhar revealed in an interview that they were shooting a test segment last fall, and that production will begin in earnest this fall, with shooting now under way in Boston. We're not sure how long production is supposed to last, or if the Broken Lizard team has a release schedule mapped out yet.

Emmanuelle Chriqui joins a cast that includes the Broken Lizard gang, Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske and Steve Lemme. Other original Super Troopers stars such as Brian Cox and Lynda Carter are returning as Captain O'Hagen and Governor Jessman, respectively, alongside franchise newcomers like Tyler Labine and Rob Lowe. The Broken Lizard team raised a whopping $4.5 million through a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGogo.

Jay Chandrasekhar is directing from a script he co-wrote with the rest of the Broken Lizard team, with Richard Perello, who produced the first movie, back to produce the sequel. It isn't known how many other roles are needed to be filled for Super Troopers 2 quite yet. Emmanuelle Chriqui will next be seen in the new Hulu series Shut Eye, which debuts December 7. She was last seen on the big screen in last summer's Entourage, where she reprised her role as Sloan from the original HBO series, and the comedy The Steps.
