CBS's Supergirl has officially begun shooting its Pilot episode with Melissa Benoist ready to suit up as DC Comics iconic Kara Zor-El. Executive producers Andrew Kreisberg, Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti have shared the first photos from the set. And director Glen Winter, who has helmed some of the most important episodes of The CW's Arrow, shared an image of himself alongside his leading lady.

Melissa Benoist leads an impressive supporting cast in the first episode of this DC adventure. Joining her on the small screen will be Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Kara's birth mother Alura Zor-El, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra "Alex" Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow "Winn" Schott and David Harewood. Former Superman Dean Cain, who famously played the role for four seasons on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and original Supergirl star Helen Slater have joined the pilot in surprise roles. And Calista Flockhart makes a rare return to series television playing Kara's CatCo boss Cat Grant. The show reunites her with Brothers & Sisters producer Greg Berlanti.

Supergirl is based on the DC Comics character and will follow Kara Zor-El and her adventures on Earth as a young woman. After many years of hiding her superpowers, she deciders to join the superhero ranks of her cousin Superman, becoming the savior she was always meant to be.
