One of the most iconic DC Comics locations is about to make its first appearance on CBS's hit superhero series Supergirl. Kara Zor-El will be stepping into Superman's legendary compound The Fortress of Solitude. And the creative team has made sure to stay true to the icy secluded hideaway. We have your first images, featuring star Melissa Benoist.

While we won't see Superman himself, the Fortress of Solitude is making its big debut in Episode 15, which airs February 29. Supergirl is heading to Superman's old stomping grounds in hopes of learning how to defeat the evil Indigo, played by former Supergirl Laura Vandervoort. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had this to say about bringing the Fortress to the small screen.

"Seeing the Fortress is something I wanted to do since the beginning of the show. What's really fun about it is it's almost an amalgamation of every Fortress that's ever been seen. There are bits of it that are right out of the comics, like the key to let you in, and we have Kelex, the Kryptonian robot in the tomb. Then there's other parts that echo the [Richard] Donner version as well, and there's other stuff that's brand new. That was really fun to be able to do."

Executive producer Ali Adler compares the Fortress to a Virginia Woolf essay. Here's what she had to say about the compound.

"It was really exciting to see those small touches. It really is the ultimate Room of One's Own - he builds this amazing place of solitude. I brought [The Big Bang Theory's] Bill Prady to the set, and he was just blown away by this moment where Supergirl is walking through the Fortress."

Star Melissa Benoist could only describe her surroundings as magical. And she praises the fact that Supergirl is finally paying more of an homage to Kara Zor-El's cousin. She explains the following.

"It's fun how we flirt with the idea of Superman being part of this world - how it is Kara's story, but they are still family. I love the way that they've included him in Kara's story with the messaging and things like that. This was the pinnacle of that. When we walked in and did that scene, it felt pretty epic."

The Fortress of Solitude will be seen in all its glory on Monday, February 29, when an all-new episode of Supergirl airs at 8pm EST, only on CBS. Episode 15 will introduce DC Comics superheroine-turned-villain Indigo for what is being described as a recurring role. Indigo is a living, strong-willed supercomputer sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against Krypton. Now on Earth, Indigo will let nothing stand in her way, not even Supergirl! Take a look at the Fortress!
