After Sylvester McCoy was cast as the wizard Radagast in director Peter Jackson's upcoming prequel The Hobbit, there was much speculation as to how big the actor's role would be, as his character doesn't appear much in the original book. The actor has come forward to clear the air, stating that Radagast will have more than just a brief cameo.

"There were bits of Radagast in the original books; there were bits of him in The Hobbit and some bits in The Lord of the Rings. They didn't use him in the film, so they're taking bits from there. Also there were later writings in the 1960s, I believe, in which Radagast was mentioned."

About how long he will remain with the project, Sylvester McCoy had this to say.

"Six to eight weeks, the first time, and then I've got to go back another three or four times over the next three years."
