Taylor Kitsch has reportedly been offered the lead role in DreamWorks' Need for Speed. The studio denied an offer has been made, although insiders claim he is the only contender for the part.

We reported back in May that Scott Waugh has signed on to direct, from a screenplay written by brothers George Gatins and John Gatins. The project is adapted from the long-running Electronic Arts video game franchise, although no story details were given. DreamWorks is seeking to launch a franchise similar to the Fast & Furious series.

We reported last month that DreamWorks has set a 2014 release date, although it isn't known when production will begin.
