Country singer Taylor Swift is circling the role of Joni Mitchell in Girls Like Us, an adaptation of Sheila Weller's book of the same name.

The book examines the musical careers of Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell. The actress does not have an official offer yet, but has been linked to the role for several months. It is also said that Alison Pill has auditioned to play Carole King.

House executive producer Katie Jacobs will direct from an adapted screenplay by John Sayles, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing for Sony Pictures. The studio has not given an official green light on the project, but production is expected to start later this year.

This would be the first major role for Taylor Swift, who made her feature debut in Valentine's Day, and voiced a role in Dr. Seuss' the Lorax.
