TBS has optioned the television rights to air My Name Is Earl a full eighteen months before other networks are able to air it in syndication. According to Variety, the first episodes will start airing on April 1st, 2008.

President of Turner Entertainment Steve Koonin stated, "This is the fourth recent comedy series we've bought ahead of their station premieres." The goal is to convince other TV stations that these pre-syndication runs on TBS will not damage the value of the series by the time of its off-network syndication run.

TBS plans to premier My Name Is Earl twice a week in primetime. In the fall of 2009, the channel will then begin showing the program daily.
