Just after it was revealed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took in an impressive $65 million at the box office, Paramount Pictures has announced that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 has been given the green light. It will be released on June 6, 2016.

Here's what Paramount Film Group President Adam Goodman had to say in a statement.

"Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story."

Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will return to write the script for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, which will be produced by Michael Bay. It isn't clear yet if Jonathan Liebesman will return to direct the follow-up.

The sequel will go up against the Sony animated comedy Sausage Party, and one week before 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse.
