The Terminator 5 casting race is starting to heat up even more, with a new report that reveals Emilia Clarke is the front runner for the Sarah Connor role, with Brie Larson also a top contender. We reported last month that both actresses were in contention for the role, alongside Margot Robbie.

Emilia Clarke reportedly has the edge over Brie Larson since the actress previously worked with director Alan Taylor on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, where she plays Daenerys Targaryen. Both actresses have tested for the coveted role, although it isn't known when a final decision will be made. Brie Larson is coming off of critically-acclaimed performances in Short Term 12 and The Spectacular Now. Emilia Clarke will next be seen on the big screen in Dom Hemingway.

In related news, the production is also looking for an actor to portray Kyle Reese, the character played by Michael Biehn in The Terminator, who was sent back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). The producers are also casting for John Connor, a role which Garrett Hedlund and Boyd Holbrook are reportedly in contetion for. However, the production is focusing on casting Sarah Connor before Kyle Reese and John Connor.

Alan Taylor is directing from a script by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. The movie is expected to be the first in a stand-alone trilogy, with Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star.
