Warner Bros. has just announced that it plans to release Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins on May 22nd, 2009, Memorial Day weekend. According to Variety, the sci-fi franchise epic will go against 20th Century Fox and their Ben Stiller sequel Night at the Museum 2: Escape From the Smithsonian.

Actor Sam Worthington is in negotiations to co-star in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, though nothing has been officially announced. The storyline for the sci-fi epic is being kept under tight wraps, but plot is part of a planned three-picture arc that begins after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust. A group of survivors led by John Connor (Bale) struggles to stop the machines.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins will begin filming in New Mexico starting on May 5th.
