While fans impatiently await the new TV spot for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that will debut during Super Bowl XLVIII this weekend, director Marc Webb recently teased new details about the story. Here's what he had to say to Total Film, revealing that they are pushing the special effects and action to new levels, while hinting at the operatic nature of the story.

"It's huge. We're pushing the levels of effects, the level of action and the emotional capacity of this kid. It's an aggressive step forward. We throw around the term 'operatic' because of the spectacle and the theatre involved, which is pretty epic. There are enormous sets and great set-pieces. But really it's a very intimate song - this relationship between Peter and Gwen is very delicate and beautiful."

We already got a glimpse of how huge this sequel will be with the New Year's Eve footage that showcased Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) doing battle in the middle of New York City's Times Square. The sequel will also set up spin-offs that center on The Sinister Six and Venom, with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (June 10, 2016) and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 (May 4, 2018) set to continue the main story line.

Speaking of Peter and Gwen's relationship, it has been widely rumored that Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy will be killed off in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, since the actress was spotted on the set wearing the same outfit seen in the Marvel Comics issue where she dies. Of course, that hasn't been confirmed yet, and we likely won't know for sure until The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 4.
