Moviegoers across the country decided to spend their 4th of July with The Amazing Spider-Man, to the tune of $23.4 million. This figure is the second best total for the holiday, behind the $29.1 million earned by Transformers exactly five years ago yesterday.

Director Marc Webb's 3D reboot has grossed $59.3 million during its first two days of release. The superhero origin story is currently projected to earn somewhere between $125 million and $140 million during its opening six-day frame. The adventure faces some added competition over the next few days, with Katy Perry: Part of Me opening today and Savages debuting Friday.

The Amazing Spider-Man was directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent, and Steve Kloves. Andrew Garfield stars as Peter Parker and Emma Stone portrays his love interest, Gwen Stacy.
