The final trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 2 has arrived. With success comes sequels. That's just the way Hollywood works and, by most measures. The Angry Birds Movie, based on the wildly popular mobile game of the same name, released in 2016, was successful. So, we're getting a follow-up. This time, the warring factions of birds and pigs are forced to work together in order to stop a larger threat. As we can see from this loaded down final trailer, that leads to all sorts of animated hijinks. This includes, but is not limited to, some very self-aware dark humor.

The trailer kicks off with "The Final Countdown" by Europe, which is a bit unexpected. It then gets to the heart of the matter, as a new island is discovered, which leads to a team-up between the pigs and the birds. Much of the trailer, Ocean's Eleven style, is dedicated to putting together a crack team, with lots of seemingly kid-friendly, but oddly adult humor thrown in the mix. For example, several young baby birds murder a snake and turn his skin into clothing. The whole thing culminates with a giant bird breakdancing contest. This trailer really does throw a lot at us.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 centers on the flightless angry birds and the green piggies, who must unite under a common cause when a new threat emerges, one which puts both of their respective islands in danger. Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), and Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) team up along with Chuck's sister Silver (Rachel Bloom) and pigs Leonard (Bill Hader), his assistant Courtney (Awkwafina), and techpig Garry (Sterling K. Brown). They managed to form an uneasy and unlikely alliance that is necessary to save their homes.

The returning voice cast includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Peter Dinklage. They're joined by a stacked ensemble of newcomers. This includes Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. Brown, Eugenio Derbez, Pete Davidson, Zach Woods, Dove Cameron, Lil Rel Howery, Nicki Minaj, Beck Bennett, Brooklynn Prince, JoJo Siwa, Colleen Ballinger and David Dobrik. Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones is set to voice the main villain.

Thurop Van Orman is in the director's chair, working from a script by Peter Ackerman, Eyal Podell and Jonathon E. Stewart. The Angry Birds movie was released to mixed reviews in 2016, but went on to gross $352 million at the global box office, working from a $75 million budget. That actually was enough to make it one of the most successful video game movies ever at the time. Hollywood still hasn't totally cracked the code on video game adaptations. The Angry Birds Movie 2 is set to hit theaters on August 14.
