‘The Avengers’ Confirms Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill

Cobie Smulders confirmed for The Avengers as Maria Hill We reported over the weekend that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders was nearing a deal to appear in The Avengers as S.H.E.I.L.D. Agent Maria Hill. Today that deal is being finalized, and Cobie Smulders is officially confirmed to join Joss Whedon's epic superhero ensemble.

Maria Hill is the sidekick of S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), a woman known for her aggressive tactics including the blackmail of certain super heroes to get them to cooperate. Cobie Smulders becomes the second female cast member in The Avengers, along with Scarlett Johansson, who plays Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. The Black Widow.

Our initial report suggested that Cobie Smulders would sign on for multiple Marvel movie projects, including sequels to The Avengers and the S.H.I.E.L.D. trilogy. The actress is now said to be signing a nine-movie deal for future projects.

Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers from his own script. Production will start on The Avengers in April.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012.

I've been watching The L Word on Netflix lately, and this girl just popped up over the past couple episodes.

@tha_phoenix...thats what im sure is gonna happen with the X-Men films by the time Marvel Studios gets them back from FOX...

FOX is gonna try to keep the rights as long as they can and prequel, sequel, spin-off and most likely later re-boot the movie, basically theyre gonna recycle the X-men as much as they can that by the time Marvel gets them back, people might be tired of the franchise already...

@Supes - I have my doubts. If they're up to the standard of Iron Man (which IMO is one of Marvel's best films to date) then I'm all for it, but if they're only going to be on par with the Hulk or even Iron Man 2...

i like her in how i met your mother, and joss whedon is great and i trust him to make an awesome film because he knows his sh*t. i was a fan of buffy and angel when i was younger, and recently rewatched them, i am a fan of firefly and its movie serenity which for made for pennies at least in hollywood terms. whedon will knock this out of the park.

I've already stated my position on the 9 picture deals.

Love her. This is good news as far as I'm concerned. However, I do feel that these nine films Marvel is planning are overkill. IMO there are simply too many and, by the time the last one is released, people will be over them.

                    But maybe that's just me.

                    Thoughts?

Oh, absolutely friend. It was a solid film, but as you said, it was chocked too full of goodies for it's own good. It took away from the actual film, and these adaption's are films first, comic book movies second. Hopefully that won't be the case with Cap.

Pretty good choice. Just realized that they're gonna start shooting in a couple of months. Very cool.

No need to be sorry bane5000, I feel the same way. The X-men should revert back the Marvel, with all the X-Men films they felt more like a Wolverine trilogy, of the last film it stank.

@ejk1...when that day comes ill be a happier Marvel fan...it seems like Fox just cant let go of the X-men, they need it that badly to make money but its just sad, like trying to take a toy from a baby, they hold on so tight and make a big fuss and fight bout it, theyre comes a time when u just gotta let go, FOX didnt create the X-men, Marvel did, now let them get their creation back...sorry for venting lol

@Narrator....Agreed, give the characters a purpose and time onscreen, dont just have Cobie pass by in the background and Fury turns and says " oh by the ways thats Maria Hill, shes my assistant " and we wait till the next film for her to have a bigger role in it

I think thats what took away the feel IM2 shouldve had compared to the first, was all the Avenger easter eggs, they shouldve just stuck with Tony getting his fathers trunk and knowing howard assisted in creating Shield, n maybe the news report of the Hulk at the university..Coulson mentioning hes being re assigned to N.m, Caps shield skeleton, and i forget what else couldve been left out i think...

@bane, like I said before, DC has only so many that they can market, while Marvel has a plethora of names. If Marvel could get the whole roster under one roof, and make good films, then they would be on top most of the time, save for whenever DC puts out Batman or Superman(and he's nowhere near a given anymore).

@ejk1...Seriously man, if they can bring everyone back home, Spidey, X-Men etc, they can have the comic book movie market cornered for years to come. im sure the most reluctant to let Marvel take back theyre properties would be FUX...ooops i mean Fox...stingy, greedy bastards lol
