The Batman has a lot of interest from fans surrounding its upcoming release, but will it be as amazing as fans are hoping for? We will find out soon enough come March, and until then, the hype train will keep moving. Teasing how excellent the movie is turning out, producer Dylan Clark tells Empire that the plan is for this to be the very best Batman movie yet.

Clark is notably including the Dark Knight trilogy in the assessment. That's saying a lot, considering The Dark Knight in particular is widely regarded as one of the very best comic book adaptations of all time. With all due respect to director Christopher Nolan, however, Clark had even told him directly that their goal was to "beat" the Dark Knight series to become No. 1 in the eyes of Batman fans.

"I’ve said this to Chris Nolan directly: 'Look, we’re trying to be the best Batman ever made, and we’re going to try to beat you.' Matt [Reeves] is interested in pushing this character to his emotional depths and shaking him to his core."

The Batman helmer Matt Reeves also says that the decision to set the story early into Batman's crime-fighting career was to help make Bruce Wayne more relatable. Reeves didn't want to rehash the origin story with Bruce's parents getting killed on screen once again, this time moving forward in time just enough to get past that while still facing a lot of uncertainty with his new role as a superhero. The hope is fans will connect with Bruce with and without the Batsuit.

"We’ve seen a lot of great stories about Bruce Wayne witnessing his parents’ murder and then trying to find a way to cope with that by perfecting himself into Batman. But I wanted to do a story where he’s already been through the origins and does not yet really know exactly how to be Batman. It is a Year Two story. And I wanted you to connect to him. Not only as Bruce, but as Batman.”

Robert Pattinson plays this incarnation of Bruce Wayne as part of a standalone story with no connections to the DCEU or any other projects. The plan for The Batman is for it to launch its own franchise, and there are early plans for more movie sequels. There are no less than two spinoff shows also in development at HBO Max. One series will follow the officers of the Gotham police department while the other will feature Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

Also starring in The Batman are Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. Matt Reeves directs using a screenplay co-written with Peter Craig. Barry Keoghan is also playing a character with rumors that he could be revealed as the Joker in one alternate cut of the movie.

After significant delays and a tumultuous production, The Batman will finally be gliding into movie theaters on March 4, 2022.
